Dr. Sears Alternative Vaccine Schedule

With all of the talk of vaccines causing autism and whatnot I thought I'd post this alternative vaccine schedule by Dr. Sears for other parents. He spaces the vaccine's out throughout their youth so that they aren't getting too much medicine at one time. The MMR shot is probably one of the most dangerous and criticized culprits of autism, but this schedule divides them up at 1, 2, and 3 years old.

The months with an * are shots-only visits b/c most doctors don't do well-baby appts those months. I'm leaving the Flu shot out of this schedule b/c there are footnotes that basically say to start it with 2 doses between 6-12 months during flu season, then get one each year through age 5.

Please use this list as a tool to discuss vaccinating with your pediatrician.

Dr. Sear's Alternative Vaccine Schedule

  • 2 months: DTaP, Rotavirus
  • 3 months*: Pc, HIB
  • 4 months: DTaP, Rotavirus
  • 5 months*: Pc, HIB
  • 6 months: DTaP, Rotavirus
  • 7 months*: Pc, HIB
  • 9 months: Polio (IPV)
  • 12 months: Mumps, Polio (IPV) (See 3rd UPDATE)
  • 15 months: Pc, HIB
  • 18 months: DTaP, Chickenpox
  • 2 years: Rubella, Polio (IPV) (See 3rd UPDATE)
  • 2 1/2 years*: Hep B, Hep A (start Hep B at birth if any close relatives or caregivers have Hep B)
  • 3 years: Hep B, Measles (See 3rd UPDATE)
  • 3 1/2 years*: Hep B, Hep A
  • 4 years: DTaP, Polio (IPV)
  • 5 years: MMR
  • 6 years: Chickenpox
  • 12 years: Tdap, HPV
  • 12 years, 2 months*: HPV
  • 13 years: HPV, Meningococcal (once Meningococcal vaccine is approved for age 2, Dr. Sears will move it there and delay Hep B by 6 months)
A NOTE FROM ME: The MMR vaccines are no longer split up into 3 different shots. As a result I have chosen to wait until my son is over 3 to get the MMR shot. He has to have 2 MMR vaccinations before starting public school so I will wait as long as possible. However, if there is an outbreak in my area of any of the 3 diseases, I will consider vaccinating him immediately. - Shari

****UPDATED ****
It was brought to my attention by an anonymous reader (thank you) that the IPV vaccine is actually included in the above....it is the Polio vaccine. I confirmed with my own research. However, I am leaving this other alternative vaccine schedule recommended from a different author and pediatrician. This is just another option for concerned parents. This schedule is based on Dr. Stephanie Cave's What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Children's Vaccinations .

Here is her schedule:

Hep B
Delay until the year before starting school, although we may consider starting the series as early as two and half if we are considering preschool at the time.

Hib
4 mo, 6 mo, 8 mo, 17 mo

IPV (Polio)
4 mo, 6 mo, 8 mo, 17 mo (booster at 4 years)

DtaP
5 mo, 7 mo, 9 mo, 15 or 18 mo (booster at 4 years)

Pneumococcal (PREVNAR) one dose at age 2

Varicela (Varivax)
Age four, if at all

MMR
Mumps – 15 mo
Rubella – 27 mo
Measles – 39 mo
Booster – age 5

****UPDATED ****
I ran across this article and decided to post it. It is about a father's struggle with vaccinations and how his decisions effected the way he chose to vaccinate his two sons. He did a year's worth of research and this article is part of his result. "
To vaccinate or not to vaccinate is the parental question of our time."

****UPDATED ****3rd UPDATE****
Merck is no longer making the MMR shots separately. As a result, personally, I am putting of the MMR shot until my son enters kindergarten. I am doing this because I think this is what is best for my son in my situation. Hopefully in the next 4 years they will have more answers and I can make a more informed decision. As for right now, this is what I've decided to do and my doctor is supportive. You, as a parent, must make your own decision on when you will get the MMR. I hope this helps - Shari

Thank you so much for writing out the schedule for me! I have been looking for this EVERYWHERE on the internet and you seem to be the only person to actually do it. Thank you and I plan on following it for my 2 month-old...Thanks!

Thanks for making this available. I am a concerned Granna and had not been able to find it online. I think it's definitely worth spreading them out to possibly prevent devastating reactions. Thanks again!

Isn't IPV the Polio vaccine?

AWESOME information. Like many other visitors to this site, I have been searching the internet for information on alternative vaccination schedules. THANK YOU for taking the time to post this. I am taking my 2 month old daughter in for her first vaccinations today and wanted to take a minute to thank you for posting this information. Like anonymous said above--this information is definately worth spreading around.

Thanks! I have been looking for this. We plan on following this schedule for our 2 month old.

I decided to go with the sears schedule, but after my two month old daughter had to go to the ER from abdominal pains after her Rotavirus (three days after administration) I am discontinuing that vac and modifying to cave schedule. Thank you for posting it!

Thank you thank you! Sure we could buy the book and we probably should just to get all the facts and fully understand the reasons for this alternative schedule versus another.
Personally I work in Autism and have seen and read enough to follow this alternative route. Unfortunately most pediatricians are against it...

Should you get the DTaP shot all seperated? Meaning each would be a different shot so there would be three different shots? Thank you for sharing your schedule

THANK YOU for doing this for all other moms out there....GOD BLESS you and your family!! ;oP

THANK YOU THANK YOU! Like many above, I'd been looking for this EVERYWHERE on the internet. My baby's two-month visit is tomorrow and I've been feeling sick over what to do. It's so helpful to find the alternative schedules on the web. THANKS!

I'm so happy I found this information. I'm so worried about taking my baby in for his 2 month shots today (supposed to be 6!?!?!) To have a set schedule that I feel more comfortable following makes me feel so much more at ease bringing the little guy in there today. Thanks so much!

I have a question: I plan to do an alternate schedule but am concerned because my 2 mo. old had her hep b shot at the hospital before I realized. Can I continue the way I want or does she need the hep b #2 since she already has #1? I have completely waited to the last minute on looking into to all of this. We are supposed to go tomorrow for 2 month shots. If I don't feel comfortable with which ones to get, if any, I'm going to reschedule the shots. I'm confused and scared on which schedule to follow. If they are both okay then why so different? I would appreciate a response back. God bless!!

Anonymous said...

We held off of the Hep B shot altogether because unless your child will be doing intravenous drugs or getting tattoos in the near future they should be OK. We were told that it is a safety precaution in hospitals because of the number of non U.S. citizens and homeless people that give birth (strange huh).

THANK YOU! my 3 year old son was perfectly fine and speaking in small sentences until his MMR vaccine at 15 months. now he is labeled as autistic and does not speak. he was diagnosed when i was on maternity leave with my now 7 month old son. i REFUSE to let this happen to him too. i hope its not too late to start for my baby. again, thank you!

Kudos to you for posting this. I especially liked this link http://www.bestlifeonline.com/cms/publish/fatherhood/Dilemma-of-Vaccination-and-Autism.php
It is no wonder that vaccines are causing problems. The developing child that is vaccinated is subjected to another person's DNA, because many vaccines are manufactured from aborted fetuses. Logic should tell us that a growing developing child injected with another's DNA is going to cause problems. Not to mention the moral and ethical implications. For anyone wanting proof and a list of which vaccines are made from fetal cell lines: http://www.cogforlife.org/

Thank you for this post. My husband and I are very concerned about vaccines for our 5 week old. My 9 yr old daughter had complications from vaccines 2 times, she had 6th nerve palsy twice right after being vaccinated. We are going to do a combination of the two. My Dr told me at my daughters 1 month appt to have a vaccination plan by her 2 month checkup. They also gave me a handout with an option #2 and Dr Sears schedule crossed out. They said they started using the schedule and didn't like the results they were getting ??? Thanks again!!!

Thanks so much for this information! I found your page just in time - my two month old is due for his first round of shots this Friday. I wanted something that I could just print out to hand to the doctor. My little boy and I thank you!

As with any medication you should be very skeptical. Pharma is big business and needs to be treated as such. Shareholders are their first priority not necessarily the health of your baby. It is a business and is run for profit. Make sure you do your due diligence before you make your choices. After much research this is the schedule I have put together for my son. I have moved the DTaP schedule out until he is 24 months since new research indicates a high possibility to brain cell damage prior to this developmental stage.

Vaccine Schedule
5-2-2009

· No Hepatitis B until age 4 if at all. Get this from dirty needles or having sex. Don’t really see the need for it.
· No Hepatitis A until age 4 if at all. Get this from feces of infected person. Very rare don’t really see a need for it.
· NO HPV for males. No on females until a better vaccine than Gardasil is out on the market. Too many deaths and side effects = vaccine risks outweigh HPV risks.
· No Vericella: this is for the Chickenpox. Certainly don’t need this.
· No Vaccine should contain the preservative Thimerosal.
· All shots must be separated. No combo shots. Only one shot containing Aluminum is allowed at a time.

Schedule:

1. 4 months – Rotavirus
2. 5 months – HIB (aluminum)
3. 6 months – PCV (aluminum) Rotavirus
4. 7 months – HIB (aluminum)

8. 16 months – HIB (aluminum)
9. 17 months – PCV (aluminum)

a. Maximum toxin levels:
i. Pertussis Toxin = 15.5 mcg.
ii. Diphtheria Toxin = 2 Lf
iii. Tetani (tetanus) Toxin = 5 Lf
b. Recommended brand: Adacel
i. Do Not Use:
1. Daptacel
2. Infanrix
3. Pediarix
12. 25 months – Prevnar (aluminum). ***** No at this time. Drug has received bad press. Need to circle back when the time nears to check on drug stats.

18. 36 months – IPV (Polio)
19. 38 months – IPV (Polio)
20. 40 months – IPV (Polio)
21. 4 years – MMR Booster. Only give this if his titers show as negative. Only immunize for any of the three that shows as negative otherwise no shot.
22. 6 years – DTP (DTaP) Booster. See #9 detail. Could be different by this time.

The vaccine schedule just posted on the 2nd: is this an updated version of sears? where did this one come from?

Shari said...

It is a comment posted by someone that I do not know. Apparently it is their version of what they are going to do with their son. It is not from Dr. Sears.

Anonymous said...

the problem is that we cannot get mmr separate anymore. merck has stopped making it...any suggestions??

Unknown said...

I am a mother of a 3 year old little girl with Austic Spectrum Disorder. Her name is Kennedy. I believe MMR changed her life. My daughter was doing everything right on time..and at 15 months, she stopped dead in her tracks. I watched it happen. Don't let doctor's bully you into staying on the vaccine schedule. You are their voice. Speak up!

Anonymous said...

Anyone know where we can get the MMR in separate doses? If not, when should the first MMR be administered in the SEARS alternative schedule? At 12 months when Mumps is given or at 3 years when teh last Measles is supposed to be given? Any ideas?

Anonymous said...

I've been told they are no longer making MMR vacines as single antigens ie. Measles, Mumps, Rubella. That forces parents to give ALL(MMR) or nothing. If I do give all, when would it be best for my child to be vaccinated with the MMR?

Mommy of Two said...

I read you can request through the pharmacy to have the MMR vaccines split out into one per dose to be delivered to doctor as long as you let your doctor know. I am not sure how accurate that is.

I am FREAKING out about the vaccines and what to do. My daughter is 8weeks old and we go tomorrow to the doctor's office. I am scared!!! I had a reaction to the DTAP vaccine when I was little and was hospitalized for 2 years with Grand Mal Seizures. I do not want to go through what my parents went through. She was already in the NICU when she was born. I guess just looking for a place to vent or panic.

Anonymous said...

As of Jan.2009 Merck is no longer making the split BUT on Dr.Sears website it states that they will resume making them slpit in 2011..why the delay? parents should have a choice..

In the Alternate vaccine schedule from 5/2/09, it says to use the Adacel brand, instead of the other brands of DTaP. Adacel is a Tdap vaccine and is not recommended for children under the age of 11 years.

I've read the comments on this post, and I must say the level of credulity is astounding to me. Yes, big business is responsible for making vaccines, but this does not mean the garbage being spewed about the alleged dangers of vaccines are true. Dr. Sears is taking advantage of parental fears about vaccines, stoked by the media, celebrities, and some vocal parent groups, and has done a grave injustice to the health of children everywhere. Read this post for the real scoop.

Here is another alternative vaccine schedule that you can post if you'd like. I still don't know what I'm going to do with my 3rd child, but have finally found a pediatrician willing to work with me. Thanks for listing Dr. Sears' vaccine schedule! Here's the other one...

by Donald W. Miller, Jr., MD

No vaccinations until a child is two years old.

No vaccines that contain thimerosal (mercury).

No live virus vaccines (except for smallpox, should it recur).

These vaccines, to be given one at a time, every six months, beginning at age 2:

Pertussis (acellular, not whole cell)

Diphtheria

Tetanus

Polio (the Salk vaccine, cultured in human cells)

Thank you for sharing. I wanted to know my options. I talked to the baby doctor and she recommended to put them as they schedule...the invitro doctor recommended we split the vaccination. We had no clue of how. Thank you for sharing!!

I recently began vaccinating my son. I did the first hep B shot last month. Today I did a DTaP, Hib, and Polio in a combination shot because that's all they offered. They do not come seperated and I wish they did. Should I continue this schedule? They wanted to do another Hep B and the Pneumococcal one also today too but I refused.

Thank you - I borrowed the book from the library but it is a bit too detailed for me - I needed an easy schedule print out. thanks for taking the time to do this

God Bless you for posting this. I didn't want to have to buy the entire dr.sears book because I've already done tons of research, but wanted to have the schedule. I was not going to do vacs at all for out 4th. today was his 8 week checkup and my new doctor was willing to work with me. He said that he would support whatever we decided to do, but his opinin what that if we decided to get any he really recomended the dtap because of pertitus(?) because we see it in Idaho every year, and a baby did die of it 3 weeks ago in our area. So today I did give my baby the dtap shot, but now wish I'd have waited a few more months first. He said that ALL the other shots he wasn't to worried about because we live in an area where none of it is really present.

I have to admit that I am a little overwhelmed. Unfortunatally I am just looking into this and both of my daughters are vacanated up to their age with what Dr.'s recommend. One just turned 4yrs and the other will have her 6 month visit Oct. 30th. They suggest...DTaP, Pn7,HIB, Rotavirus, & HepB(for the third time) She is also supposed to have a PCV test. I have always thought less medicine is best but trusted the dr.s judgement until now. Please help.

Hi, do you know of any alternative recommendations re the Meningococcal C vaccine (if and when?) It is on our vaccination schedule (Australia) at 12 months along with MMR, Hib and HepB. Thanks

Anonymous said...

I delayed vaccinations with all four of my children and have never regretted it. They are now parents themselves facing the vaccination dilemma. I think the key is to not overload their little immune systems.

I'm a new mom of a precious litle boy. We are due to begin the process of vaccination next week and my husband and I have serious concerns. We have a very dear friend of ours who's son was making good progress and then all of a sudden around 17 months he stopped communicating and has since been given the diagnosis of autism. I don't want the same thing for my son. If my doctor does not support an alternative schedule, how do I find someone that does? Thanks for all the information. The progress made in medical research over the years is overall good, however, as a parent you MUST do the research and in the end decide what is best for your family. I beleive your doctor should be there to help you and not force their beliefs or the beliefs of the practice upon you.

THANK YOU for posting your vaccine schedule! My baby has her 4 month appointment in a few weeks. I have drawn up an alternate schedule based on your schedule and the recommended vaccines in my state for the doctor to follow. Luckily, my doc is ok with an alternative schedule so I'm not expecting a fight. My baby got the usual 5 shots at her 2 month appointment. She immediately went from a happy, babbling, outgoing baby to a crying, whimpering, clinging mess for the next 48 hours. At least she didn't run a fever! I was expecting something of a bad reaction, but I had no clue just how awful all those vaccines at once would make her feel. I felt like such an terrible parent and cried right along with her. The thought of watching her go through that again at 4 months makes me feel sick and I've vowed never ever to make her go through so many vaccines again. I've limited her to 2 vaccines at the most per visit and spread them out to age 5. I am by no means against vaccinations, but I am against flooding our babies' bodies with so many inactive diseases and chemicals at one time. 5 is way too many for such tiny bodies to handle!

What about the vitamin k they put in the baby's eyes? I have had all 4 of my other children on the doc's schedule but really want to get this baby vaccinated on the delayed schedule but it does not say anywhere about the vitamin k or any other shots they might get right after they are born. Should I just wait till 2 months to do anything at all? Thank you so much.

I am an RN and a new mom of a now 8 month old little girl. I work in the ER and ICU. Having the knowledge from 4 years of medical training and continued experience and research, I can easily say that I highly support a delayed vaccination schedule and am following Dr. Sears' with a few tweaks myself. If the MMR comes back as individual shots I would consider this starting at age 3. If not, I will delay it until before starting school. I also won't give varicella until age 4 if titers show that she hasn't already been exposed (which you should know considering I think your kiddo having chickenpox would be evident). I will have her get the HPV when she is around age 11 and I highly encourage the meningococcal as I have seen kids and adults alike die from it first hand. Hep B I will start around age 4 as it is a blood born transmission and the reality is when is a kid going to come in contact with another person's blood? Our generation didn't get the vaccination till junior high and I don't know anyone with Hep. B. As for the vitamin K and the clindamycin eye paste...better good then harm. Thanks for posting this. I bought the book but hadn't heard about Dr. Cave so I am reading about her now.

Thank you! Mahalo! And Gracias! Does he not post it because he'd like people to buy the book? I wish I could but money and time are short right now. I have to make my decisions right away. He probably does have an eBook though I imagine. Anyway, not that anyone needs to answer this, but I believe he should post the schedule online in order to assist parents who are trying to do the right thing. Knowledge is power, and he seems more concerned overall with empowering parents. I think a good alternative to making purchase the book would be to have them offer a donation. I would gladly donate a smaller amount that I can afford. Even poor people need this info, right?

I work with children with Autism (in AZ) and many of my clients have children in school without many, if not all vaccinations. Schools will make you think it's not an option, but you can sign a waiver stating that you are not vaccinating due to religious beliefs. I thought I would mention this b/c I read your concern about the MMR vaccine and starting school.

Anonymous said...

So happy I found your site. I have been looking for information like this all morning. Thank you! I'll be revisiting!

Thank you so much! I've looked all over for Dr. Sears' schedule and all I could find was info on the book. This info is very helpful!

My son is now 7.5 months old & we have followed the pharmaceutical suggested schedule of vacs. I would like to stop it and follow an alternative schedule. Since has he been given everything suggested up until now, how would we change the schedule to follow it alternatively? I had never really heard much about vac being dangerous before now & the stuff I could find was never definitive. Do you have any suggestions on doing the following vacs on an alternative schedule?

Anonymous said...

thanks for all the great info and input. Just a reminder that you do not HAVE to have any vaccines for your child to enter a public school. The school districts will not accept responsibility for any adverse affects of vaccinating therefor they can not force you to vaccinate. They just make it seem as though they will not let your child into school without the recommended schedule. You have the right to sign a waver and claim religious reasons if you need to.

I just registered my 5YO for Kinder and she has some but not all and I just signed a waiver on the back of the paper for the vaccines I chose not to give her. No problem!

Good luck out there with these hard decisions, glad to see we're not alone.

After my third child had a horrible reaction to the Rotovirus oral vaccine (Rotateq)when she was 2 months old, I have never signed off an any more vaccinations for ANY of my children. It is a decision I make based on the fact that I only had 2 or 3 shots (TOTAL) as a child and except for chicken pox, never had an issue as a child. I prefer my children develop their own strong immune system to fight off some of these childhood diseases as opposed to creating artificial immunities via some of these very dangerous vaccines. The professionals claim they are "safe" yet I'm not blind, if they were "perfectly safe" why do they insist on us signing off on each and every injection?? Case closed. These vaccines are NOT safe. Period.

Great comments and thanks for posting the schedule. Dr. Sears just posted on his site that as of 2011 Merck will make the MMR as separate vaccines again.

5-2-2009..the Rotavirus vaccine has to begin at 2 months otherwise it doesn't work, they would not give it to my daugther today because they said it was too late.

What is PC in the vaccine schedule? Is it Pneumococcal?

Thank you for posting this schedule. Brave parents like you are making a difference in the lives of so many! I just wanted to suggest a book called Homeoprophylaxis, A Fifteen Year Study by Dr. Isaac Golden, about homeopathic vaccinations. After reading the book, we decided to use homeopathic vacc. with our toddler. Practitioners who have these vaccinations typically help parents remove toxins from kids who have been negatively affected by traditional vaccinations, too.

Anonymous said...

My pediatrician's office had Dr Sears' schedule on-file already. They just put "Dr Bob" in the kids' files and we got no static for it.

Dr. Bob is all about informing parents and his book was the most balanced I found. I figure if both the anti-vaccine and pro-vaccine people criticize him, he's doing something right.

My kids are 21 months old (twins) and doing well under Dr Bob's schedule (modified for the inability to split the one vaccine, MMR if I remember correctly).

If you live in Colorado Springs, Dublin Primary Care (Dublin Pediatrics), is Dr Sears friendly.

Anonymous said...

I am a public health nurse with children. I look at both views as having good and bad. Dr. Sears information is based on his own ideas. ACIP is a board of 15 independants that look at the safety of vaccines based on science. Hep b as stated in several post is just not for babies getting tatoos or having sex. Some mothers are hep b positive and can pass it on to their newborns. Also it could be caused by any form of blood mixing. If you look at real data about the reduction of deaths since vaccines have come out its real. Autism is still on the rise even though thimersol has been taken out of vaccines. Look at research not someone selling a book. It works on fears.

Erwin Alber said...

There is no evidence that vaccines have ever prevented anything - apart from health sanity and common sense. As Dr Herbert Shelton once remarked, "Belief in vaccination is a form of delusional insanity."

Unfortunately, many parents who read the ingredient labels on supermarket items to make sure they contain no harmful chemicals will get their child vaccinated without asking for and reading the vaccine package inserts. If they did, most would never consent to have their child vaccinated.

"Vaccines contain substances which are so noxious they should not ever be injected into a human body."

Dr Viera Scheibner PhD, Australia

Vaccination impairs children's immune system and mental functions and interferes with their general development.

"We are slowly but surely destroying the intelligence of our future generations with vaccination."

Dr med G Buchwald, Germany

As far as I am concerned, every vaccinated child is a vaccine-injured child. Once a child is injected, it is never quite the same again as it would have been had it been left to grow up vaccine free.

Unvaccinated children are generally far healthier than vaccinated children who are often prone to asthma, allergies, eczema, ear inflammation, and neurological disorders of various kinds.

The only benefit of vaccination is of a financial nature, to the people involved in financing, promoting and producing vaccines. Vaccination is first and foremost a multi-billion dollar industry, whose bottom line is the dollar. Our children's health and well-being doesn't even come into it. In fact, the more harm vaccines cause, the better for the sickness industry. In my books, vaccines are used to promote ill-health under the guise of preventing it. I look at vaccination as an organised criminal enterprise dressed up as disease prevention.

"Vaccination is child abuse and a crime against humankind."

Dr med G Buchwald, Germany, expert assessor of vaccine injuries for the German social courts.

While Dr Sear's schedule may be an improvement over the normal child poisoning schedule, it's still a child poisoning schedule.

Shoot. I've been trying to find Dr. Bob's recommendations but it's not what I hoped. It's still way to many and starts way too soon. I was hoping for info on starting vacc after 2 and only giving essentials. It's hard to find info on which boosters are actually needed when starting late. Back to the drawing board! But nice discussion here.

@1st time mom- The Pentacel is just a combo vaccine of HIB, DTap and Polio. So you are still getting all 6 shots at once and this is not a delayed schedule.

I have read every single one of these comments as well as the schedule at the top of course and I thank you so much for posting this!! I have some research to do before next friday when we go in for our sons 2 month appointment. i want to do an alternate schedule but want to make sure that I want to do all the said vaccines as well. I don't understand why kids need the Polio one when it hasn't been around in over 15 years! I kick myself in the butt for doing the Hep. B at the hospital when we have nothing in our system for it so I pray everyday that this decision will ever have an affect on him!! This is my first kid and I have never ever had to make a more difficult decision in my 28 years of life as this one!!! It's all in Gods hands I guess. Thanks again!

The MMR-autism link has been discredited by the medical community after discovering the doctor widely responsible for linking them (Andrew Wakefield) falsified data and had monetary incentives. You can read the article at:

http://www.cnn.com/2011/HEALTH/01/06/autism.vaccines/index.html

That being said, I don't believe that vaccines are 100% safe for everyone. Some people are genetically more sensitive than others. I chose to vaccinate my kids for everything, but not as aggressively as suggested by the CDC or AAP. I split the vaccines but not as much as Dr. Sears recommends. Also, I only allow one live vaccine per visit.

Vaccines are extremely safe for most people, but if a vaccine creates a problem, there's probably a bigger problem with someone's immune system, mitochondrial function or something else.

We're going in on Tuesday for my son's 2 month visit, and of course they want to pound him full of vaccines. Even though my pediatrician spoke somewhat derogitorily about alternative schedules, he ultimately said it's up to me if I want to change it. He also did say, when I pushed him, that Hep B isn't really necessary until school age, and that rotavirus is very low risk. I'm skipping both of those, and otherwise asking for preservative free (your doctor may not have them, but you can request they get them as long as you're willing to pay the extra cost) vaccines. Also, apparently recently there was a Canadian study that said delaying DTaP even a few months can reduce the risk of childhood asthma by 50%! So much for the CDC telling us we're all crazy.

This is a great schedule! I actually modified it some given my fear of MMR and hopes that the vaccine will be separated. My son is 2 now, has not had the MMR or started chickenpox (varicella)We gave only the DTaP at last visit and this time (2 year mark, gave Hep A and polio)I will catch him up at a later time.

****ALSO I CALLED Merek yesterday (DEC 2nd 2011) and was told that although they had been discussing offering the Measles, Mumps and Rubella separately "given the information in the reports provided to us by the CDC, we have decided AGAINST splitting the vaccine again. It is our belief that there is sufficient evidence that having the MMR combined provides benefits not obtained with separated components. There are no intentions at this time to offer the separated MMR vaccine components again!"
